Standing at Sinai

Welcome to Visual Midrash Topic 1: Nitzavim: Standing at Sinai.
Debra LineschDebra Linesch

You are invited to engage in text study and create literary & visual responses to one of the most poetic and poignant passages in the Bible. The explicit bond between the children of Israel and Torah, and the implicit relationship each Jew has with this sacred text touches on why this is the inaugural topic of YAVNET.

Join Debra Linesch as she guides you through a midrashic process of "meaning-making" as you engage text on your own terms while drawing from the wisdom of Tradition and peers.

Five easy steps to creating Visual Midrash

  1. Encounter Deuteronomy 29-30 in Hebrew and in English.
  2. Ponder the text and share your questions with others.
  3. Reflect upon the insight of sages and scholars to go deeper into the text.
  4. Post poetic responses (Midrashic ideas) to help you unpack the text and read poems and fragments written by other participants.
  5. Create and share your Visual Midrash with others.

Read the FAQ that tell you all about the conceptual frame for all aspects of this teaching module.
