Creating Visual Midrash
The leap from text (read/linear) to image (created/layered)is the basis of this study process. The construction of imagery engages the body, mind and spirit, evoking a multi-sensorial participation of the sort that is implied in the traditional encouragement to hear, to see and to experience Torah.
Panim El Panim: Face to Face
Panim el Panim is a phrase found in Genesis, Exodus and Deuteronomy. It suggests the ways in which the divine is encountered and offers students of Torah opportunities to engage with the nuances of the text. Commentary on the phrase has included rabbinic emphasis on the mystery of the encounter between humans and God. Contemporary commentary has explored the potential for the divine in the human encounter with another.
